Toolkit for Community Outreach

The Concrete Coalition is largely driven by volunteer support. This toolkit is designed for engineers who are interested in addressing potentially dangerous older reinforced concrete buildings in their communities. Each of the presentations below outlines how to conduct a different Concrete Coalition activity.

	Conduct a Sidewalk Survey Assess the risk from older reinforced concrete buildings in your community by organizing a sidewalk survey. This presentation will help you organize a sidewalk survey in your community.
	Conduct a Virtual Sidewalk Survey A virtual survey can also help you assess the risk from older reinforced concrete buildings in your community, but requires less time to organize than a sidewalk survey. This presentation will help you organize a sidewalk survey in your community.
	Visual Categorization If your community already has an inventory of older reinforced concrete buildings, you can start to look for patterns in construction types. The presentation explains a visual categorization process that may help you identify model type buildings in your community.
	Policy Document Review Once you have assessed the risk in your community, the next step is mitigation. Showing that vulnerable older reinforced concrete buildings pose a risk to your communities recovery, as outlined in city plans, can help you get the attention of policy makers in your community. This presentation will walk you through the policy document review process.
